Two tons of happy birthday fun going out to the wonder of Lily Tomlin today as she turns 81 years young! There's really no competition for me when it comes to Lily Tomlin movies as Big Business was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid and I have seen it so many times I can recite it from memory at this point, but I ask y'all -- What's your favorite Lily Tomlin? Do you prefer Serious Lily like in Nashville? Or perhaps her Romantic Stylings are more to your favor...

I favor comical Lily though she's always fine in whatever she does.
Big Business would also be my favorite closely followed by 9 to 5 and then All of Me. I love her small role in Flirting with Disaster where she and Alan Alda play refugee hippies.
Moment by Moment though was a torturous time in the theatre. I had an inkling of disaster when I went to a Saturday night show and there were maybe eight other people in the theatre and the movie had just come out!! Beside the amusement of watching Lily constantly looking at Travolta and saying "Strip!" "Strip!" it was an unrelieved slog.
All of Me and 9 to 5 are tied at the top. I wanted to love Big Business, but it was trying way too hard in the same way Spaceballs does.
Love her. Her performance in Short Cuts is super underrated. Her and Tom Waits! What a fantastic, fascinating screen couple.
She was also gold in The West Wing. Mildly ornery but funny as hell in a small role as the president's personal secretary.

Incredible Shrinking Woman was my introduction to her. I watched it a lot as a kid, and loved the concept and the visual gimmicks. Big Business, she was outdone by Bette. Never could get through Nashville. I think her best is really Grace and Frankie’s first few seasons. It’s a character she got to flourish with. And of course, her very best was her live work on stage. So many great characters.
Besides all those mentioned above....check out The Late Show, an odd little '70s picture, a sort of sleazy L.A. mystery reminiscent of Altman's The Long Goodbye.
