Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Seymour: If you think of yourself as funny,
you become tragic.

John Cassavetes was born 90 years ago today -- I have to admit that as much as I love John Cassavetes the actor I've never warmed to John Cassavetes the director, which is a sort of blasphemy, I am aware. So I've never seen this movie. I've seen a few of John's films and not enjoyed any of them, so I've sort of stopped trying. But I'd love to hear what y'all's opinions on this film are, as I know very little about it and it seems, even for Cassavetes, under-seen and barely available. I see there are shelves though:

Huh. And I thought I was the only one who felt that way. I've never seen this one, but generally I can admire the films he directs, or like parts of them, but that's about it. Whereas as an actor he could be very compelling.

I'm not the biggest fan of his work, and I admited myself that when I realized that my favorite films oh his were Minnie & Moskowitz and Gloria, which are the ones that most people don't really regard that highly (never seen Big Trouble or A child is waiting, tho). M&M is a great rom-com with drunk and unstable people, with a really happy almost corny ending.
