A great film masterfully directed and acted and with one of the queens of Langian interpretation-Joan Bennett-at the very top of her game.
She was always an enjoyable performer but Lang brought out certain hitherto dormant qualities-a venality and a carnality beneath the placid surface-that other directors missed and she ran with it. Gloria Grahame was the other though her sexuality was more overt.
