... is the direct line that leads Max to Miss Cross 1st Grade Teacher and unwitting cause of his downfall. She wrote the quote in the book, see, and since she's played by the perfectly wonderful and entirely under-appreciated Olivia Williams, well, it's not hard to see why she drives all the man-boys and boy-men about her to madness.
Same, Max! Same. You know you're in for interesting stuff when a possible love interest, no matter the age difference, is always and constantly framed by bookshelves...
Anyway as mentioned yesterday Rushmore is turning 20 today - any fans in the house? Bottle Rocket is perfectly fine but it was Rushmore when I fell for Wes Anderson, and I'm pretty positive I'm far from alone on that front...

For several years it was my favorite movie, and I probably annoyed a lot of people with my love of it (I used to give the Criterion as a gift). All 3 main actors are perfect in their roles, and beyond that everyone around them fits perfectly, from Cox and Cassel, to people who have few if any lines, but just look right (from Mrs. Blume, to that little kid who's often around Mr. Blume). I wish Murray had been Oscar nominated. There's not a thing about it I don't love - but, perhaps weirdly, I'm not sure it's even my favorite Wes Anderson movie any more (that would probably be The Life Aquatic, which I didn't even like when it came out, but it has grown on me immensely over time).
Yep this was my Wes Anderson first love. I also love Bottle Rocket but I didn't see it until much later. I will always ALWAYS love Max. Also his drunk joke is a constant in my house and confuses people when apropos of nothing my husband or I will answer comments with "O R they?" and then laugh.
Scott - I've been meaning to re-watch Life Aquatic; I was disappointed with it when it came out and it's been years and years since I've re-watched. It's overdue a reassessment, for sure.
My favorite of Anderson's films for the record is Moonlight Kingdom. But I'd have trouble picking a Top Five Faves since there are about five films just vying for second place.
Sadly i only watched this for the very first time last year, but i loved it!
psst, Jason... it's "Moonrise" Kingdom, which is also my favorite Wes Anderson film, mainly because I love small island scenery, and it's so beautifully filmed. Plus that house!
