Martin Scorsese's masterpiece (well okay one of many many many) came out on this day twenty-five years ago. I fell under its spell immediately and have been under it for, looks at watch, twenty-five years. It is, on all counts, a perfect thing. I couldn't love it more. How do you guys feel about it? I know some people think Winona's in over her head but, well, she isn't, and that is EXACTLY how you're supposed to feel about May.

I watched it for the first time this summer and was blown away. I watched it another 2 times that same week. It really might be my favorite Scorsese.
And yeah, Winona is great. The central trio is brilliant casting.
I think it's probably Martin Scorsese's best movie. It's pretty nearly perfect. The first time I saw it I thought Winona was a problem and I didn't get that Oscar nomination - but I've warmed to her in the film over time. I think you're right that her work works, in context.
