I've been thinking that Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1978 film The Marriage of Maria Braun has been in need of a re-watch from yours truly for awhile now - it's never been one of my beloveds among the oeuvre of one of my top-five filmmakers, even though other people love it very much, and I feel as if one of these days it's got to click, right? Right? Well the New York Film Festival is giving me the chance in 2018 - it's one of twenty-plus movies they announced yesterday as part of their Retrospective selections; you can see the full list right here. And today they announced their Documentary selections, see them right here - out of those I'm most looking forward to the Watergate documentary I think? I could use a refresher course on that whole thing, given where we are as a country and all.
