I know the Oscars can only give out one Best Director statue per year and so they're always playing catch up with the greats - super happy to have Guillermo Del Toro checked off the list, guys! - but the realization that a genius like Spike Jonze, who turns our imaginations inside out every time he turns a movie camera on, upending everything we thought it was possible to see, the thought that he has never won Best Director... that's some bullshit right there. He's only been nominated once! (He does have a statue for Best Screenplay though.) Witness this astonishing new four minute advertisement for Apple's new HomePod starring FKA Twigs that dropped last night and you'll see what I'm talking about (oh and open this video on the biggest screen you have):
"It's just comforting to read how meticulous and well thought-out Guadagnino's work on Suspiria has been, that someone with his artistry is doing this (and not some hacky Platinum Dunes type asshole). I'm so excited to see this!!."
--- The Suspiria remake is out around Halloween and reader Robert Kirby is down with Luca's listing of Rainer Werner Fassbinder and the painter Balthus as a couple of his influences, visually speaking. As are we! Excited too!
