Sick & Happy

.
Hey y'all I'm laid up with some sort of headache flu thing this morning so there won't be posting today - I know, I know, the Oscar nominations! I watched (and tweeted) them from under the covers but I gotta get back to resting. But if y'all have comments on them (and I'd love to hear them!) this is where you can leave them...

Poor Armie didn’t get nom’d. And either did Luca. At least James Ivory, Timothee and Sufjan got nom’d. And congrats to Mary J for her great achievement in Mudbound, though Rob Morgan gave that film’s greatest performance. He’s an actor that needs to be seen more.

Sad about Armie and Michael Stuhlbarg. But happy about the noms for Get Out, and ditto on Blige.

Meryl F***ing Streep Again? Why. She flushes a toilet and gets a nomination. This year, it feels more like a popularity contest than anything. I only care about three nominees: Sam Rockwell for 3 Billboards; Loving Vincent, which was the best movie I saw this year and Beauty and the Beast for production design. The rest is shite!

If you really do have the flu then check out the NY Times article on how to deal with it particularly not spending a lot of time lying down. Resting but in a sitting position is better for your lungs.

I felt CMBYN got most of the noms they deserved and am especially jazzed for Sufjan and sad for Armie, who I think was really thirsty for this. Happy generally about the noms, but wtf exactly with Meryl Streep. She does not have to be nominated every time she makes a movie.

Fluids. Rest. Trashy TV. Not necessarily in that order.

Very sad for Armie, along with Stuhlbarg, Hunter, Romero and Hanks. Happy for Robbie, Timothee, Kaluuya, and Jenkins.

Totally off topic but still... I just stumbled upon a video from a TV short called Saturn's Return with Joel Edgerton in some very nice gay scene. I mean nudity and nipple kisses and all. I don't think I've seen it here before (or anywhere else for that matter). Thought you'd like it. :)

Speedy recovery Jason. As for the rest, get over the Meryl Streep nomination! She fucking deserves it for The Post, one of her best performances in years!

I would have loved to see CMBYN show up in Director, Cinematography and Score, but alas. They really loved Darkest Hour for some reason. All the tech categories kept going to the same films. At least they were smart enough to get Director almost completely right (but - and I hate to tell you this - Nolan got in and Luca did not) and I, Tonya got the 3 exact nominations it deserved.

Don't get the love for Blige, though. I don't know how enough people voted her their #1 supporting actress to get her nomination. I have a feeling - that I've seen around Twitter and elsewhere - that most voters don't actually see a lot of movies.

I know, Jason, you LOVED CMBYN, but I saw it and was so underwhelmed by it all. I don't think it's going to get a whole lot of love on Oscar night. I was THRILLED to see "Shape of Water" get so many nods (I love anything Del Toro) and am convinced it is one of the queerest films of the year

That shot of Allen Payne on your header is blowing my mind every time I check your site. Nice choice!
