Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can lern from:

Ninotchka (1939)

Leon: Your finger, please.
Ninotchka: Why do you need my finger?
Leon: It's bad manners to point with your own.

The great director Ernst Lubitsch, whose name has come to sound like champagne to me, was born on this day in the year 1892. What's your favorite Lubitsch film? Mine is probably Design For Living but then that's about Gary Cooper being in a three-way with Fredric March & Miriam Hopkins so nothing else much stood a chance...

That is such a tough question! Talk about being on the horns of a dilemma!!

Design of Living is a fun souffle with both Cooper & March delectable and Miriam Hopkins a saucy delight but I lean more towards Heaven Can Wait or To Be or Not to Be for second place.

My favorite though without question is The Shop Around the Corner. It's sweet and charming but with many deep layers. Maggie Sullavan and Jimmy Stewart are great together but the picture belongs to Frank Morgan who tears at your heart as the cuckolded shop owner.

Easily To Be or Not To Be. One of the Rosetta stones of modern comedy. Funny at every level.
