Pull The Thread! Pull The Thread!

.
There have been moments over the past few weeks where I've had to remind myself that it's not even the end of October yet and there are still plenty of movies that are coming out before the end of the year that I haven't seen that might shake up my idea of 2017's best (well not my number one - that one's locked, as I'm sure you're all perfectly aware at this point) and a big one of those movies left is Paul Thomas Anderson's reunion with Daniel Day-Lewis called Phantom Thread and which, until this morning we had not seen a stitch of. But lo, a trailer has arrived! Watch:
.

.
I feel silly now for having read the synopsis last week (read that here) and having groaned a bit - this looks absolutely gorgeous, and not at all what I had imagined in my mind. It's so refined, which is not exactly a sensibility (give or take moments in The Master) that I equate with PTA - it feels like one of DDL's earliest films, a la one of his Merchant-Ivory joints.

Anyway it's not out until Christmas so we've still got some time to stew on it - there are so many gorgeous frames in the trailer I feel as if I might wear them out by then, but we'll see!

Yeah, I don't know. It looks good but that storyline leaves me cold.
