... you can learn from:
Stairway to Heaven (1946)
Abraham: You claim you love her.
Peter: I do love her!Abraham: Can you prove it?Peter: Well give me time, sir. Fifty years will do.Abraham: But can you prove it?Peter: Well, can a starving man provehe's hungry except by eating?Abraham: Would you die for her?Peter: I would, but, er, I'd rather live.
The great David Niven was born on this day in the year 1910 -- I have seen his name come up a couple of times this week when talking about "Oscar Surprises" since he had what they call a "juicy" one...
“Well, ladies and gentlemen, that was almost bound to happen… But isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?”
Oh David, you rascal. I actually wished Mr. Niven a happy birthday last year in a similar fashion with a different section of dialogue from this Powell & Pressburger film and I admitted then that I had bought but not read a couple of the books he wrote in his life; well guess what? I still haven't read them. They stare at me from the shelf, beckoning, but to no avail. Sorry, David. We'll check back in come March 1st 2018, as long as we're still around, and see if the situation's changed. See ya then!

A brilliant actor and Stairway to Heaven, aka, A Matter of Life and Death is a great movie! One of the masterpieces of British Cinema!
If the books you're talking about are The Moon's a Balloon and Bring on the Empty Horses they are very fun reads with his wit evident throughout.
