I Am Link

.
--- That's Craftacular - Did you hear that Amy Sedaris is making a new TV show?!?!? The news is several days old so you probably did by now but we've still got to celebrate. It will be a mixed-up version of a variety show and a talk show and it will be based on her two home crafting books, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence and Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People, which I certainly fucking hope you've all got sitting on your bookshelves already. Anyway when I read this news I joked that Amy would age ten years while we're watching it because she's probably been secretly filming it for that long, in between bong hits.
.
--- Team Experience Unite - My friends and fellow Film Experiercers came together and voted for their favorites of 2016 this week - click here to see what they chose! They did good. And yes all of those "they"'s do translate to "I didn't vote again" - even though I'm ahead of the curve this time around and really very well might end up telling you guys my favorites of the year before, say, never... I am not quite there yet. I know it's strident, ridiculously so, for me to be such a stickler about voting on such things before I've seen everything I want to see, but I am nothing, absolutely nothing, if not STRIDENT. Still - seeing some of those runners-up and knowing my vote might have lifted them up higher, it doesn't not pain me.
.
--- Promises Promises - So is the sequel to Eastern Promises happening or not? It's been announced, again, but no names - no Viggo, no Cassel, no Cronenberg - are mentioned. Maybe they'll make like the low-rent Skinemax version of a sequel and they'll cast like Casper Van Dien and that dude from the Purge movies (no not him, the other one) in their roles. That'd be something. As long as there's actually gay sex this time, anyway. That first movie was such a cocktease. (thx Mac)
--- Second Happiness - Here's a fun thing - Esquire gathered together nine critics to tell us about the movies they misjudged the first time they saw them and/or reviewed them. Although I don't know how one misunderstands Young Adult as thoroughly as it sounds like Dana Stevens did. Also hey look it's Armond White being totally incoherent again! That never happens. Anyway this whole exercise was inspired by that time Matt Zoller Seitz gave Todd Solondz' Happiness another chance, which is def worth the read too.
.
--- Oceans In The Toilet - I would love to be excited about the "female Oceans Eleven movie" since it stars several of my favorites, including Cate Blanchett looking like this, and I was excited to read just now that Richard Armitage has joined the cast too, but when I looked him up in the cast I just saw that a bunch of Kardashians are doing cameos in the movie and I... I just can't. I can't be excited about anything they touch. I need to disinfect anything they touch.
--- Take Me Away Thomasin - Be fore-warned, you'll need to set aside a little more time than usual on this piece, it's lengthy, but this piece at Bright Wall Dark Room on director Robert Eggers and his film The Witch - which maybe you didn't notice is a movie we adore - is excellent, one of the best things I've read on the movie, and about movies in general, in quite awhile. Just really takes in the film, and the reaction to the film, in a wise and knowing way, dissecting Eggers' intentions and our projections thereon.
