Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Suspicion (1941)

Johnnie: You thought I was going to kiss you, didn't you?
Lina: Weren't you?
Johnnie: Of course not. I was merely reaching
around you, trying to fix your hair.
Lina: What's wrong with my hair?
Johnnie: Well, I'm glad you asked me that. It would've been extremely discourteous for me to bring the subject up. Your hair's all wrong. It has such wonderful possibilities that I got excited. For the moment I became a passionate hairdresser.

Archibald Alexander Leach was born on this day in 1904 -- "Cary Grant," as Mr. Leach came to be known, showed up about 28 years later. His first role was in the pre-Code comedy This is the Night...

Legend goes that Grant hated the movie and almost quit the movies altogether but his good friend and roommate Orry-Kelly (who'd go on to become one of the great costume designers) convinced him to keep at it. Speaking of Orry-Kelly for a second...

... I didn't know that his memoirs were only just discovered in 2015 and published. They've got a killer title - Women I've Undressed. He did a column on fashion during WWII so he wasn't some upstart writer, either. I totally wanna read it -- have any of you read it? Anyway as for Cary...

... what is there to say that hasn't been said already?
What a passionate hairdresser.

I haven't read the book but have seen the same named documentary based on it. It's somewhat of an odd pastiche of reenactments, biography, vintage clips of his designs and interviews with women he designed for including Angela Lansbury and Jane Fonda. It's imperfect but worthwhile and the reminiscences are various women are very cool.
