I'm not sure how many theaters it's opening in (they say 'select theaters" so that probably means just NYC & LA for now) but Paul Verhoeven's brilliantly ballsy new film Elle, starring Isabelle Huppert as a damaged woman, a woman damaged, is out today and I cannot recommend it with enough high praise to fill up the buckets and buckets of high praise that this funny fearless film deserves. Here's my review from way back, but that's only the half of it. It is challenging and dark and totally ridiculous and hysterically entertaining all at once. You cannot have an opinion on 2016 without factoring in Elle as part of it.
