Robert Eggers, the director of the masterful and terrifying film The Witch (here's my review) is definitely going to make his own Nosferatu next! We'd heard this was a possibility awhile back but he confirmed it on a podcast last week. He's apparently been obsessed with the original 1922 film since he was a little kid, and when he was a teenager he put on two plays based upon it. Here's what he said about what he's planning:
"Nosferatu has a very close, magical connection for me. Though if I were to make the movie 17-year-old Rob was going to make of Nosferatu it would have been something between like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sin City, whereas this is going to be the same approach as The Witch, where 1830s Biedermeier Baltic Germany needs to be articulated in a way that seems real.".
