Quote of the Day

.
Warren Beatty's new movie Rules Don't Apply (starring our beloved Alden Ehrenreich) comes out next month and so he's gone and given his first interview in 25 years to Vanity Fair, which you can read over here. It's filled with great dish - I mean, he tells the story about how he met Marilyn Monroe the night that she died! That's some stuff! But I will share this other encounter, for our own purposes...

In another encounter with a famous seducer, Beatty met with playwright Noël Coward in London, where they had high tea at the Savoy. The master entertainer asked the actor, “Dear boy, have you ever tried homosexuality?”
“No. I have my hands full at the moment,” he replied diplomatically, as ever.
“You really should, you know. It’s marvelous.”

What a sad thought, that Warren Beatty never tried a man on for size. Seeing as how Coward died in 1973 maybe Beatty just hadn't gotten around to it yet - there was a lot of 70s and a lot of drugs still to be had. Anyway you should read the entire interview, so go do that... right after this other thing...

... did I grab your attention? Yeah, I intended to. So that right there is a thing I stumbled upon while looking up a picture to accompany this post, and obviously I had to do some research since Warren Beatty's been a notorious skin-flint (meaning not money but actual skin). He's never been naked has he? He flashes a hint of butt in Shampoo but I think that is it? Anyway these pictures...

... appear to be the closest we ever got out of him, and they're scant and hard to come by. They are from one of his very first roles in 1957 as "Boy" on an episode of the anthology TV series Suspicion, which sounds kind of like a rip-off of Alfred Hitchcock presents. His episode is called "Heartbeat" and it's about a dude who gets told by his doctor that his heart is fine but the doctor's wrong and yadda yadda Warren's role is minuscule (which you could probably guess given his character doesn't even have a name) but vital and maybe you're asking me how I know this? I know this because a kind soul has uploaded the entire episode onto YouTube, that's how.

I can't embed the video here so click over to watch it; the quality's terrible and there's great big subtitles across parts of it, but it's there, it exists, and that's something. A very special something! Also a special something - if you hit the jump I made a couple gifs...

Ladies and gentlemen, beloved character actor David Wayne (who happened to receive his sole Emmy nomination for this episode of Suspicion).

Is he in his underwear or is that a speedo?

It's an old-fashioned men's swimsuit, so basically a speedo, but slightly bulkier

Pat Hingle is the doctor. He played Warren's dad in Splendor in the Grass although he was only about 13 years older than him!
