It of the Day

.
EW (via BD) have revealed this our first full look at Bill Skarsgard in costume as Pennywise the Clown in the new version of Stephen King's It being directed by mama director Andy Muschietti and again, like the first face shot we got it's photo-shopped to hell and back so who knows if we'll even see it this well in the film. Anyway I know they feel the need to get themselves as far away from Tim Curry's genius as they possibly can but I dunno about this costume -- it's too plainly Evil, know what I mean?

The 1990 mini-series was 50% garbage but everything having to do with Pennywise, from Curry's performance on down to all of his props and gadgets and yes, his costume, were perfect, and I don't know if you need to futz with that. The freaky thing about Tim Curry's clown (besides Curry's acting, I mean) were the garish colors and cheapness of the fabric - especially when his face would go all fucked up. Attached to that plain dollar-store costume it added an extra level of frisson that having him look so dingy and dirty and monstrous right out of the gate will miss.

But I don't want to be one of those people (THOSE PEOPLE) who criticize everything based on an attachment to the original -- It in movie form has tons (TONS) of room to improve upon the 1990 version. I just hope it's not a blanched out art-directed to pseudo-black-and-white thing -- It should pop.
