The Film Experience has been celebrating 1977 (aka the Holy Year of My Birth) all month and I wanted to get this one in there before the month ended so this week's "Beauty vs Beast" offered up the perfect excuse -- it's he rude crude ladies of Desperate Living, y'all. Close your eyes and whisper to yourself, "I don't want no white man lookin' at my Tampax!" and then go vote!
And in related news Waters' semi-lost 1970 film Multiple Maniacs has gotten a big fancy Criterion restoration - not sure of its release date yet but it's doing the art-house theater rounds starting next week and I'll be seeing it with the Prince of Puke himself in person! And yes I lead a grotesquely charmed life because this is actually the second time I'll be seeing this movie with a John Waters doing Q&A after 2014's mind-blowing retrospective at the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
