I Love Your Loving

.
I've made a name out of over-using the word "gratuitous" but it really would probably cross the line for me to take a picture of the tears that have welled up in my eyes upon watching this, the first trailer for Loving, Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols take on the court case that legalized interracial marriage starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga. Still I thought about taking a picture of my tears to prove they existed! And I even watched the trailer without sound -- I imagine it's got some pretty swelling music that'd make them tears spill, spill, spill. Watch for yourselves...

Loving is out in November. And I guess this is just the week for me finding strange spectacles alluring because much like Jake Gyllenhaal and his pedo-stache yesterday I am totally into Michael Shannon's photographer look...

I think some of the music in the trailer -- especially the grandly swelling sound toward the end -- is from Carter Burwell's reworking of "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" for "True Grit". Interesting how music is scavenged from established movies for trailers. The soundtrack from "Aliens" has been salvaged repeatedly. Edgerton's chameleonic abilities continue to amaze me. And he is an intelligent director, too.
