I used to work right down the street from Unoppressive Non-Imperialist Bargain Books, the bookstore that Jenny Slate's character worked at in Obvious Child, and when it popped up in the movie I was surprised it was the first time I'd ever seen the place on screen. I mean, with a name like that!
Anyway somehow the bookstore remains open til this day (I say "somehow" because I don't really understand how any bookstores stay open in this city) (much to my great dismay, mind you) so don't let Obvious Child fool you when in the film they shutter the place up - you can still go there! Put it on your Obvious Child NYC Tour alongside whatever comedy club it is that Slate constantly bombs in, and some random abortion clinic. What a fun time you will have!
