So apparently A Bigger Splash splashed (ha see what I did there) onto blu-ray in Italy today - I hear the film was not well received in director Guadagnino's home country and flopped hard? The movie is about Italy from an outsider's perspective though, and it doesn't paint the country's police in the finest light, so I think there are probably a couple of off-text reasons. Anyway I adored the movie and that's all that matters.
Well that and the nudity, which thanks to that Italian blu-ray release has begun to leak onto the internet! Thanks to some folks over here for these shots; they're still pretty low-fi and I don't have access to video to make the appropriate gifs yet, but once I do I won't really have much of a problem with double-dipping and making a second post, ya know? There's a pseudo-documentary of gay artist David Hockney titled A Bigger Splash that was released in 1973. There's a scene in it where he walks to a shower, tossing his clothes all over his house, and you see his uncut penis. If you haven't seen the movie you may want to check it out.
Nothing against Fiennes, whose character was one of the most irritating in modern cinema, but I wished his amount of nudity had been flip-flopped with Mathias' exposure. There was way too little Belgian flesh on display.
