Good Morning, High-Rise

.
Thanks to a series of successive trailers that highlighted this scene we were able to cap most of Tom Hiddleston's morning sun routine in the new movie High-Rise before it was even out...

... but now it's out! On demand, that is. I do have to say that if you have patience inside of you at all you might want to wait to see the film on a big screen (it'll play in some theaters starting in May) because visually it's a real treat...

... but that is really easy for me to say because I have already seen the movie. And on a big screen at that. I saw it a few weeks back at Tribeca but I have not reviewed it, as of yet. Our pal Nathaniel did though -- his review of the film from the fest just went up last night, so click on over to The Film Experience to read it.

My opinion is actually pretty much in line with what he has to say, although the pacing maybe bothered me a hint more than it did him. I have a feeling it's one of those films I will enjoy more with a second viewing though - I went in with such a strong idea of what I was expecting and the movie goes out of its way to never really be that. It's structured very strangely, kind of to its own tune - it's like it keeps on setting up punchlines that never come. Or maybe that it's nothing but punchlines? Or quite possibly somehow both of those things at once.

Anyway it's very much worth seeing - it's not one you'll immediately warm to like Wheatley's Sightseers or Kill List (and those are awfully dark movies to consider warm!) but it's not as alien and insane as A Field in England either. He's finding a middle-ground, and he's easily one of the most gifted and complicated film-makers working today.

As an aside, can you tell me this -- who else would visualize these thoughts with butt shots? You guys don't know how good you have it with me, I swear. I am unheralded in my own time. On that gratuitous note, hit the jump for a few more gifs...

Too bad Luke Evans wasn't playing that role. I'd rather see him in these shots.
