Pics of the Day

.
This one's fairly random but I'm excited about it anyway - did you know Vladimir Nabokov, the esteemed author of Lolita and other masterworks (I've often had to stop put down his books for periods of time because his writing is so good it makes me despair at my own inadequacy), was also an armchair etymologist and did a fair amount of insect illustrating in his life? I mean I assume you didn't because who even knows such things? Well somebody did and they've just put out a book of his illustrations and I want it so badly the compulsion to stop writing this post and click over to Amazon and buy it is short-circuiting my fingertips. What a magical world this can be, full of delight and surprises. See more at this link.

I think that's an entomologist, studying insects -- etymology is the study of word origins. Actually he may have been a lepidopterist -- butterflies.
