Goodbye Bowie

.
I hadn't gotten a chance to listen to David Bowie's new album Blackstar since it was released just a few days ago, and I hadn't watched the music video for "Lazarus" even though I'd heard it was special. I didn't realize there was a hurry. Then last night the news broke about Bowie's death, a ripple across space and time, and so I listened to the album on the subway this morning, and "Lazarus" promptly made me burst into tears on the train. (THOSE HORNS. Those mournful horns.) I still haven't watched the video yet -- I actually don't trust myself to do so while still at work. But here it is. Fucking legend, man.

I cried in the car this morning--his "Little Drummer Boy" duet with Bing came on the radio.
I'm bummed.

I'm beyond bummed. I was awoken by my sister's howls of anguish soon joined by mine, and most of my family. The Bowie lovers we all are. I once joked to co-worker that I wanted to die before Bowie because I didn't want to live in a world without him. I really didn't think we'd lose him so soon.

Those horns, and that song are worthy of Miles Davis. Maybe they'll play together on the other side.
