Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Plantiveau: Watch out, ma'am.
That's the deep part where you are.
Christina: There is no danger. I can swim.
Plantiveau: That don't mean a thing.
It's always the ones who know how that get drowned.
The ones who can't, don't go near the pool.

What a magnificent film that is! Simone Signoret and Vera Clouzet are inimitable. Have you ever seen the 70's TV redo called Reflections of Murder with Tuesday Weld, Joan Hackett and a baby Sam Waterson?

Obviously because of restrictions it's not the masterwork the original is but Joan and Tuesday are wonderful, it's tautly directed by a just starting out John Badham and Waterson is very effective playing a real sonofabitch.

Let's not talk about that lumpy Sharon Stone remake.

Fun fact: they used to play the clip leading up to Vera Clouzot's 'death' by fright in the middle of the day back when there were only three TV channels in France. They, of course, cut right before the stinger.

Just to mess with parents who found impossible to bathe their children for the next weeks I'm sure. So many smelly French children in the 80's... I was one of them it goes without saying.

Strangely enough Clouzot also became my favorite director ever.
