I Am Link

.
--- Jake's Light Feet - This is a fairly generic news-item (I should put "news-item" in quotes since it's barely got a heartbeat) but since it allows me to use a pic of Jake for this post we're going for it - Playbill shares this quote from Mr. G on his Broadway prospects after wowing everybody (present company included) with Little Shop recently:

"I don't know about [Little Shop] in particular...but I definitely would love to be doing a musical on Broadway in the near future... I would love that. It would be a huge honor. There are a lot of really good people who do it really well so you gotta know you can do it well if you're going to do it."

And you can, good sir! Get on it. And make sure it's a musical with lotsa skin. I keep saying Damn Yankees but I've got an entirely-imagined vision of it being nothing but locker-room crooning...
.
--- Shadow Players - It's a Happy Hannibal reunion! Until they make more Hannibal, of course. (Knock on wood.) The god-like Bryan Fuller is re-teaming with director David Slade on his adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, which is currently in stiff pre-production for Starz. I imagine we'll start hearing casting stuff soon, which is totally exciting!
.
--- Dive In - The original source is The Daily Mail so slap a grain of salt on this news but apparently Nicole Kidman will co-star opposite Elizabeth Moss in the second season of Jane Campion's Top of the Lake series. Oh sure, it's not outlandish, since Kidman's worked with Campion before, and there was recent talk about them teaming up again. But still, The Daily Mail's nicknamed The Daily Fail for a reason. Let's hope they are right this time though, because that would be great.
  .
--- Kids Killin Kids - I wish McG would change his damned name - he's a little old for that shit now. Speaking of shit, he's still making movies. (That applies to everything but the first Charlie's Angels film.) And his next one... actually sounds interesting? It's a horror-comedy called The Babysitter (from the writer of the tortured western Jane Got a Gun) which sounds like a dark twist on Adventures in Babysitting, where the adventures include murder and such. Bah McG will probably turn it into loud shit.
.
--- Impossible Marvel - Rumors are swirling, as rumors are wont to do, that Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation's lady breakout Rebecca Ferguson is Marvel's pick to play Captain Marvel in their long promised female superhero flick. It's weird to say so after only seeing her in one movie but Ferguson really does seem like the real deal - she's super winning in Rogue Nation in a gigantic role that she carried with total ease and charm. But isn't Captain Marvel a blonde?
.
--- Mother Murder - If you're in New York then you've got the chance to see the terrifically fucked horror film Goodnight Mommy this weekend (here's my review of it) and you should -- my pal Jose got to chat with the film's two directors over at The Film Experience and it's a wonderful read, but maybe only if you've seen the film first since some specifics are dropped.
.
--- Grand Slam - This news is like that "Jon Hamm is single news!" (Meaning didn't we hear this months ago? Why's everybody talking about it now?) but well everybody's talking about it now -- Legendary says they want to make a Godzilla vs King Kong movie in the near (but not too near) future. After they release their Skull Island movie with Tom Hiddleston. I could've sworn this was talked about back when the recent Godzilla movie came out, too. And what's happening with that thing's sequel? I want Gojira dammit!

--- Who's Creeping Now - A third Jeepers Creepers movie is getting made, with writer-director Victor Salva returning to turn his leering camera upon some new half-naked boys. It's like Dazed and Confused - he gets older but they stay the same age. I'm always torn writing about these movies because Salva did serve his time (he's a convicted child molester, having had sexual relations with the 12 year old star of his film Clownhouse) but so much of his movies are about young male flesh; both Jeepers films (jeez the second one is half-way to gay porn) and Powder are fantastically creepy when viewed with this knowledge. Then again he has been making movies all this time and I haven't seen any of the other ones, so perhaps he's gotten better about it. I do like the Creeper as a monster, and both of the earlier films are a lot of fun, besides the subtext.
.
--- And Finally I guess I'll probably have to see Truth, the upcoming awards-bait starring Robert Redford as Dan Rather, but I'm not really feeling much fire in my belly for it. It has two things going for it -- Cate Blanchett, of course, and I did always like Dan Rather and his folksy nonsense. It seems like a big job (with some big actors taking up a lot of air) to give to a new director though, and I'm not really the biggest fan of Redford either; give or take, with that one. Anyway EW has the first clip from the film, which is premiering in Toronto, watch it here:

Rebecca Ferguson went blonde for the BBC serie The White Queen; she'll be fine.

Whoa I just googled that and she looks SO different! She does pull off blonde though, you're right. But she's nearly unrecognizable.
