Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Serial Mom (1994)

Beverly Sutphin: You can't wear white after Labor Day!
Juror #8: That's not true anymore.
Beverly Sutphin: Yes it is! Didn't your mother tell you?
Now you know. [She whacks her in the face with the phone]

Juror #8: No! Please! Fashion has changed!
Beverly Sutphin: NO IT HASN'T.

We devoted one of my favorite "Thursday's Ways Not To Die" posts to this scene a couple of years ago but I'm going back to this eternally amusing well today because today is the 40th anniversary of the capture of Patricia Hearst, who became a huge deal in the 70s when she was kidnapped and brain-washed into committing some (fashion forward) bank robberies by the Symbionese Liberation Army. (Has anybody ever seen Paul Schrader's 1988 film Patty Hearst with Natasha Richardson? I have not, and it seems forgotten today.)

I don't know the story of how John Waters hooked up with Hearst as an actress (she's been in every one of his movies since Cry-Baby!) but I'd love to hear him talk about her some; I'm sure he was obsessed with the case -- I do know that he has the pair of glasses she was wearing when she was arrested framed in his bathroom though!
