Born on this day in the year 1940 was the actor Wilhelm von Homburg, which yes was a real living person's name and not the name of the Nazi villain in a 70s exploitation movie. Although you might actually be less convinced of that fact after seeing Wilhelm's chosen IMDb picture...

Best IMDb picture ever? I think it's got to be up there. Anyway Wilhelm was the face of Ghostbusters II's spectral Carpathian, but not the voice -- I actually didn't know this until just now but no less than Max von Sydow did Vigo's voice! Really! Max was un-credited though because of course he was, he's no moron. Here's the story over at io9, with video of MVW's voicework.

In reality Wilhelm von Homburg was a stage-name (of course it was) -- his real name was Norbert Grupe. Yes, really. You'd change that too. He was a big-time boxer in the '60s and apparently quite the scandalous public figure in Germany:

"Homburg was at various times nicknamed "the boxer Beatle" (because of the long hair he sported during his fights) and "the German answer to Muhammad Ali" (because of his takes on 1960s issues). His smoking habit was widely known; he entered rings with a cigar in his mouth many times, and smoking is unusual for professional boxers. Many German youths began to imitate his acts. Homburg was a rebellious person, and he moved to St. Pauli's red district, becoming involved with drugs and sex. Homburg was constantly followed by papparazzi, who documented his life hanging out with drug dealers, pimps, and a local Hells Angels chapter. Homburg was accused of a number of crimes, such as extortion, pimping and drug dealing."

His acting career also included a film with Herzog (of course it did) and he was one of Hans Gruber's memorable thugs in Die Hard.
