I Feel The Need To Mention...

.
... since I haven't before how very very much I adore Simon Russell Beale's performance as Ferdinand on Penny Dreadful this season. Isn't he just an utter and complete delight? I mean sure yes 93% of what's on-screen at any given moment with Penny Dreadful is an utter and complete delight (I subtract seven percent for Reeve Carney, the show's only weak spot) (except when this happened) -- seriously, it's been so on fire this season -- but Beale's lisping ginger fop is such an unexpectedly rich concoction. He's never just a joke, he's got all kinds of angles you don't expect to him (he's profoundly kind even though he's simultaneously undermining it all, but it's his sassy repartee with Josh Hartnett that is my favorite) and when we are meant to laugh in his general fussy direction he is always the first one laughing. So so great.

Thank you for mentioning this! I am finding this season a delight and have no idea why everyone else isn't talking it up! Give me Penny Dreadful and Hannibal in a marathon of gorgeous horrors!

He's great in everything he's in. Check out Deep Blue Sea (Hiddleston one) and the Hollow Crown. He's a born scene stealer.

I am living for Penny Dreadful at the moment. It's just great! I want to know so much more about his character.
