Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Laura: I'm sorry, Walt.
Walt: It's not your fault. [pause]
Which injuries are you apologizing for, specifically?
Laura: Specifically? Whichever ones still hurt.
Walt: Half of those were self-inflicted.
I hope the roof flies off, and I get sucked up into space.
You'll be better off without me.
Laura: Stop feeling sorry for yourself.
Walt: Why?
Laura: [sighing] We're all they've got, Walt.
Walt: That's not enough.

Sometimes I think that this scene might be my favorite in Moonrise Kingdom, which was my favorite movie of 2012, making this scene my favorite scene of 2012. (That's how Math works.) When Bill Murray says he hopes he gets sucked up into space... god it leaves a mark. (And did you hear that Criterion's releasing their edition of Moonrise in September? WANT.) Anyway it's Frances McDormand's birthday today, which no offense to Meryl but this is more meaningful to me than Meryl's was yesterday. Frances is Top Five Living Actresses, no question. Especially coming hot off her blistering and brilliant performance in Oliver Kitteredge -- I wanted to share a quote from Olive but IMDb doesn't have any listed, so we'll make due with this, my favorite scene of an entire year. Somehow. Such sacrifices. Happy birthday, Franny!
