I Quit Smoking Seven Years Ago Today

.
Tis that time of year again, when my allergies are in full bloom and I celebrate the memory of the days when I purposefully made them worse by sucking down carcinogens. It's now been seven whole years since I touched a cigarette, and it's gotten to the point where I don't even think about having been a smoker any more - indeed it seems strange to me, an echo from another person. My many past lives!

This annual post was what I was cryptically referring to in that "Hugh Dancy is smoking in bed" post I did this morning, in case that wasn't clear. In case you're new to this - every year we post a gallery of pictures of hot dudes smoking to commemorate the anniversary of my quitting. You can see Year 1 right here, you can see Year 2 right here, you can see Year 3 right here, you can see Year 4 right here, and you can see Year 5 right here, and you can see Year 6 right here.

I don't miss cigarettes, but as I say every year that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the beauty of a beautiful man putting it between his lips and... you know the rest. Hit the jump for lots more...

Congratulations! I am so proud of you. I gave up smoking 30 years ago and find that I'm now allergic to cigarette smoke. Remember, there are a lot of people with adult onset asthma out there and it doesn't help to smell the smoke. Thank you!

Smoking is a horrible, destructive, dangerous habit. It is also sexy and I miss it very much sometimes. Quit in '95.

The dominant world view (the fully automatic universe) is so depressingly incorrect that one could cry. Humans are seen as random flukes of matter that accidentally occur between the maternity ward and the crematorium, but matter doesn't matter, because us being our physical body is just an illusion. Our true being is immaterial and so there is nothing that could die or be destroyed.

It's so funny how people have been programmed to believe that both health and disease would solely depend on food or substances being either consumed or avoided. There is no death, no disease. There is only an endless stream of continuous life force. What we call disease is just a physical manifestation of fear.
