Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Lucinda: You will preach what you do not believe
to men who do not care.

A happy 46th to Oscar winner and sudden bisexual Cate Blanchett today - everyone take to Twitter and make conjectures about her sapphic habits like I did last night, post-haste.

I've never actually seen Oscar and Lucinda but I was in college when it came out and I worked at the local art-house theater and they played the trailer constantly and I remember it vividly, seeing Cate for the first time, and just being gobsmacked by how gorgeous she was. It was clear right then right there she was gonna be a big movie star. Thankfully she turned out to be quite an actress to boot!

Anyway I thought about this movie and my reaction to seeing her face the first time earlier this week when I read this quote from Shekhar Kapur, the director of Elizabeth, which came out one year after Lucinda and turned her into The Cate Blanchett we all know and worship now:

"Cate Blanchett was destined to break upon the international screen, and I was her conduit."

I was her conduit! Such flair, that statement! Oh I long for the day when I can say that about something or someone in my life. The only thing I'm conducting anyone towards is depression and/or hives and I don't think Variety will want to write a cover story about that any time soon.

Oscar & Lucinda was actually rather dull but had beautiful costume design and good acting by the two leads.

I liked Oscar and Lucinda, and deals with subject matter that one mightn't expect from a period drama like this.
