All Aboard The Garland Express

.
Previously known as just - just - the screenwriter of half of Danny Boyle's movies (28 Days Later, Sunshine, et cetera) Alex Garland jumped into the director's chair this year with the terribly well-received Ex Machina (and appropriately so, receivership-wise - note to self: write your damn review) and now that he's gotten a taste of sweet sweet power he's not letting go! He's announced his next project - it's an adaptation of a book called Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer - it's actually the first of a trilogy. (What isn't?)

Any of y'all read it? It's about a group of women who enter Area X - it's a sealed-off portion of land that either drives people mad or gives them cancer or reveals itself to be Eden itself. It goes all trippy, needless to say - Garland name-drops JG Ballard when talking about it. Anyway Natalie Portman's already on board for it, and rumored to be joining her in alongside her is both Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. And these are just the early names! There will probably be more! My good goodness that'll be a groovy something or other, won't it?
