RIP Rod Taylor

.
How great is that shot of Rod with Jane Fonda for 1963's Sunday in New York? And I'm not just talking about those calves of his. I've never actually seen that movie - indeed it's basically just Hitchcock's  The Birds that's my touchstone for him. But what a touchstone! His hotness very nearly toppled John Gavin's when we polled you that one time, and that's a pretty mean feat, not being entirely trounced by John freaking Gavin. But speaking of tight trousers...

... I have seen him in a few other things - The Time Machine, of course - but definitely the best thing I've seen was making the rounds on Twitter today with the news of his passing: a fight scene from the 1970 flick Darker Than Amber, which must be seen to be believed. It's fucking insane. New favorite thing ever, y'all. Watch it:

He was also very hot and had a nice, hairy chest over well-developed pecs that were always showing with a shirt buttoned down quite far. Sexy man!

A sexy, handsome man.

Sunday in New York is very dated in its attitudes towards woman, marriage and life in general but it's still a cute little comedy and both Rod and Jane Fonda are at the height of their individual beauty.

He's also very enjoyable in The V.I.P.S. partnered with an extremely young Maggie Smith. It's an all star affair with Liz & Dick, Orson Welles, Louis Jourdan and a totally brilliant (and Oscar winning) Margaret Rutherford that could just as easily have been called Fogbound in Fancy Clothes being as they are all trapped in a London airport. Rod and Maggie's segment is best though the whole film is fun if you like shiny soaps.
