I Am Link

.
--- Home Where Heart - I am very much looking forward to Ramin Bahrani's next movie 99 Homes, which stars Andrew Garfield as a man whose home was foreclosed upon teaming up with the crooked developer, played by Michael Shannon. What a duo! Bahrani's great too, and it sounds like a terrific timely premise. The movie is showing in Venice, and EW has the first picture. Yes yes I want them to make out, obviously I want them to make out.

--- Post Park - Production has wrapped on Jurassic World, the fourth film in the series starring everybody's sudden favorite person Chris Pratt (screw you fickle people, we've loved him forever) and as somebody pointed out the call-sheet for the last day that got tweeted shows that Bryce Dallas Howard was there shooting on the last day so let's hope they shot the movie out of sequence, because I really want to see her get ripped apart by Velociraptors and if she's around at the end it's putting a hamper on my wishes.

--- Music Mama - This is random but if you're in New York and a big fan of Nashville and/or A Nightmare on Elm Street (basically, if you're sane) then you might want to think about going to see actress Ronee Blakely do a live show next month. I can't go, it's smack-dab in the middle of NYFF. Anyway I have no idea what her own music sounds like but this is being billed as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Altman's film so I imagine she'll be doing stuff from that. Does she realize it's the 30th anniversary of Elm Street too? I want her scene with the vodka bottle under the sheets in the hallway closet reenacted dammit!

--- Texas Hot -  I really hope I can go to Fantastic Fest in Austin some year - it always sounds like my kinda event. The movies showing for the latest incarnation were just released and they're showing The Babadook! Yes I've already seen it but it's so good I'd travel halfway across the country to see it again. They're also showing The ABCs of Death and V/H/S sequels.
.
--- Future Past Future - I don't know what it is about this story that makes my head hurt but I read this article about three times through and it all sounds like gobbledygook to me -- something about an extended cut of X-Men Future Past coming out next year, apparently? In theaters? The bluray comes out in October anyway. But let's hope "an extended edition" just means ten more minutes of Hugh Jackman's ass. I can't believe a better quality cap of that scene still hasn't gotten online. We are oppressed, y'all.

--- Just In Time - The co-writer and director of Frozen, a woman named Jennifer Lee, is going to adapt the famous children's book A Wrinkle in Time next. Besides a TV movie version about a decade ago it's never been adapted, can you believe that? I read the first book when I was a kid (didn't we all) but I don't think I ever read the four sequels... anyway that seems like a franchise dying to happen.

--- Ready For Winter - In case you were worried that there wouldn't be lots and lots more Sebastian Stan in the third Captain America movie, well, first and foremost, you are stupid. Secondly hey the directors say you don't need to worry, there will be lenty o' Bucky to go around, as they groom him to slip into Chris Evan's snug bodysuit. (Hopefully while Chris is still in it.) Oh and yes apparently Seb spends some time in the extras on the Winter Soldier bluray swinging around in sweatpants if that gif's to be believed.
.
--- True Dick - Clearly the allegations of plagiarism hitting True Detective writer Nic Pizzolatto right now are going to feed my already well-established dislike of his work, and sound possible to my already poisoned ears - we believe what we want to believe, and I want to believe that Pizzolatto's a total hack. But it does feel like it drops in a piece of the puzzle, why the show felt so disjointed to me - it was scraps of other people's work crammed together and glued together with cool, or whatever. But again, biased person talking.

--- We Are Groot - Another day, another chance for me to not write a review of Guardians of the Galaxy. But hey look over at The Film Experience Nathaniel did yesterday's Top Ten on the subject of movie trees, in honor of that movie's awesome Groot character.
