Dark Water

.
Part of me feels as if I shouldn't direct you to watching the trailer for the upcoming horror flick The Canal because it is filled with juicy images from the movie which alarmed me a great deal watching the film cold at the Tribeca Film Fest this Spring - here's my review - and I'd like to share that experience with everybody. But another part of me sees some of these images again...

... and that part wants to squeal with glee and how much they still freak me out. So I leave it up to you. You're presumably an adult. (If you're not an adult I don't think you should be here, since we would probably be rated NC-17.) You decide.
.

.
The Canal comes out in theaters and on VOD on October 10th, in time for Halloween, which means it's beating its sister-cinema the Aussie horror flick The Babadook to theaters here in the US; The Babadook is out in November. As I said in my review of The Canal these two films are weirdly very very similar, just switching the protagonists between a father (Canal) and a mother (Babadook). And though The Canal is terrific, quite terrific, I do give the edge to The Babadook as the better film. But then The Canal has Rupert Evans in the lead...

... which is very clearly a large plus.

I saw this at a film festival and was very disappointed with it. It felt like a rehash of so many horror films that came before (cannot go into this without spoilering the plot) and had some really bad acting going on(the wife's mother and the guard made me cringe on so many levels... The only good things about are the sound design, the cinematography and a few creepy images, but they cannot save this from being a poor excuse of a film.
I was looking forward to The Babadook, but if it's similar to this pile of trash I will stay clear it.
