I Am Link

.
--- Geeks Out - Taking weekends off from blogging (still necessary for what lingers of my sanity) I usually have some catching up to do come Monday morning, and never is this more pronounced when Comic Con is happening in San Diego. It actually feels like there was bigger news out of there this year than there has been lately even, or maybe it's just that I've gotten sucked into the whole Marvel universe more than I'd like to admit (thanks Joss). Anyway I'm never going to be able to round all that news up, now do I really think of you are really coming here for that, but I will latch onto a couple of stories of course. For fine coverage of all the big stuff though, you should read Anne-Marie's columns at The Film Experience, she's there in the trenches and she's grabbing the good stuff. (thanks Murtada for that picture)

--- Woe Be Wizard -  I don't think this was talked about at the Con either since it's just rumor-mongering at this point but it does seem like there's some foundation to the rumors now that Joaquin Phoenix might be playing Dr. Strange for Marvel. I didn't miss a confirmation of that for sure did I? Anyway Joaquin would be a fine choice, I think. He can sometimes annoy me, and I do picture Strange as being... taller? But if Joaquin wants to play in that sandbox at this point I think you let Joaquin do that.

--- Bug Smoosh - One of the big news items that dropped like a bomb right beforehand that nobody there addressed from what I heard (I haven't watched the videos of the actual panels; who has time for that?) was that Patrick Wilson has dropped out of Ant-Man - citing scheduling conflicts of course. What else is he gonna say? This thing is a wreck flying off a cliff? I wasn't actually feeling it was going to be a wreck, I like Peyton Reed a lot, but that art-work they released at the Con was ATROCIOUS. And then Patrick ran away. Now I be for real worried.

--- Monster Party - And the final bit of news out of Comic-Con that we'll talk here is the confirmation that Gareth Edwards is indeed making the second Godzilla movie, and the big lug (the lizard I mean, not Gareth) will be facing down all three of his big foes - Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah. We kind of knew this ages ago - Edwards was on the record way back last July saying he wanted the sequel to be basically a remake of Destroy All Monsters, which has them all. But it's nice to hear the first movie's success is making this possible, because geek squeal.

--- Freak Central - My eyes glazed over when it got to the specifics, so's as to not spoil myself, but John Carroll Lynch is playing the big bad in the upcoming season of American Horror Story! Don't you "John Carroll who?" me, you know who he is. He was Margie's duck-painting husband in Fargo! That's just one of many many many. Think of him in the last scene of Zodiac and know he can play scary.

--- Channel Deadite - Now that I think about it this news of an Evil Dead television show probably had something to do with Comic-Con so I guess we're not done with Comic-Con but hey, when are we ever. Anyway apparently Bruce Campbell is involved and according to him it will have something to do with his character of Ash, so.... I guess we'll see. I don't know. I never really trust Bruce when it comes to this stuff. He's always saying things.
