--- So Many Degrees - The only reason I clicked on this link about an HBO miniseries being made of a book called Olive Kitteredge is I first read that name as "Ouisa Kittredge" and I thought it was a spin-off sequel about Stockard Channing's character in Six Degrees of Separation and I was so fucking excited about that. But it's not that, and I was sad when I realized my mistake, but then I read what it actually is and hey, it's pretty cool - it's Lisa Cholodenko (director of The Kids Are All Right, etc) making the thing, and it will star (deep breathe) Frances McDormand (although honestly I could stop there with just her name and we'd all be sold already), Richard Jenkins, John Gallagher Jr (he was the boyfriend in Short Term 12), Peter Mullan (yay Session 9), Rosemarie DeWitt (yay Tara's sister), Zoe Kazan, Ann Dowd (yay creep from Compliance), Jesse Plemons (yay creep from Breaking Bad) and Brady Corbet (stop stalking me Brady Corbet) amongst others. That is a really nice cast right there.
--- Cherish is The Word - If you're curious what the situation it is that Miss Valerie Cherish will be finding herself in the second season of The Comeback, you can get some details about it right here. I love the idea because it's absolutely not what I was expecting and it's got me excited that Kudrow and Co are really going to be able to surprise me with what they've got to say. As long as I stop spoiling myself for everything, of course.
--- Fin Soup - The movie of the week over at The Dissolve has been Jaws and they've had tons of great little pieces on Speilberg's Summer classic but I wanna point you to this really great article about the shameless rip-off of that movie called Great White, which got banned by Jaws' studio, because it offers up some really interesting thoughts on how important the dialogue is between hucksters and artists and how opaque those lines can be.
--- Whole Joel - There's not really much to offer from this THR chat with Joel McHale besides a couple of zingers about A Game of Thrones and his reaction to The Soup getting an Emmy nomination (he blames it on Matthew McConaughey) but it does allow me to post that picture of Joel McHale, so it's all been worth it.
--- It's Doomed - Hey look it's another day of the week so we need a new rumor about another character getting stuffed into Zack Snyder's Superman Vs Batman Vs The Kitchen Sink - now there's word that big bad Doomsday might in fact be in the movie after all. It could just be a cameo a la Thanos in The Avengers, hinting at what's to come for the Justice League movie.
--- Troll Time - I haven't read through this whole thing yet, it's long and I'm in a rush today (speaking of Summer Fridays have begun at my office starting today so we'll be going quiet for the weekend in just a little bit), but here's a set visit to Laika's new stop-motion beauty called The Boxtrolls over at AICN and it's filled with striking pictures of the filmmakers and the figures they so deftly manipulate for their art.
--- And finally oh my gosh how neat-o is this, it's four and a half minutes of behind-the-scenes from The Exorcist that's never been released before! Levitating, pea soup spitting - it's got it all!
