You know that I have got things to say about that picture (via) of Sufjan with cake smooshed all up in his face - creamy gooey white cake dripping down his cheeks - but we'll give him the day off from our as-of-now routinely filthy insinuations since it's his birthday. Don't say I never did anything for you, Suffy! Especially when I would do anything, anything, aaaaaaaaaaaaaanything, you asked. So instead of just ogling him today I figured I'd give some props to the reason I fell for him, even before I knew what a dreamboat he is - his tunes. I looked at my iPod and here are the five most played songs off of it...
... with three caveats. One, I skipped the Christmas music because that stuff gets played at Christmas time on repeat and so those songs were indiscriminately on top of everything else. And two, I wanted to mix it up so I went through the list and picked the top five tracks from five different albums. I think it'll give you a nice overview of his good stuff. And three, I couldn't find any videos from his band Marzuki, which he was in in the late 90s. I love their record No One Likes a Nervous Wreck though, if you can find it (which is a chore, it's hard to find) listen to it, it's golden. Anyway let's get to the five!

"Majesty Snowbird" - This is my favorite Sufjan song and it's never been properly released. He played it a bunch on his bird-themed tour back around 2006 or so; I'm going to be really sad if it never gets a proper recorded version put into the world, it's an epic (it's ten minutes long, give or take) and beautiful thing that never fails to bring me to tears.
