What Are You Seeing This Weekend, People?

.
It's the weekend in case you didn't notice, and all of a sudden I'm looking at it and I'm realizing it seems really crowded. I'm glad I already saw Obvious Child (just reviewed) and Ti West's new horror flick The Sacrament (reviewed way back when) since that checks two off my list, but there are still three movies that I personally feel that I've got to get to this weekend.

There's the found-footage Bigfoot movie called Willow Creek, from director Bobcat Goldthwait (if you'd have told me a couple of years ago that "director Bobcat Goldthwait" would be a thing, much less a thing I look forward to, I'd have buried you alive in a shallow grave of Hot To Trot VHS tapes) - it's gotten some fine reviews.

And then there's Borgman, the apparently bizarre Dutch home-invasion thriller that unexpectedly wowed folks at Cannes last year. I've been jonesing for this sucker ever since - the posters and images they've released have only made me crazier with want. It looks so strange and surreal and pretty! (You can see release dates for it across the country right here.)

And of course there's Edge of Tomorrow - I try to swear off Tom Cruise but the reviews are just too good, man. So I just keep repeating to myself, "Doug Liman, Doug Liman, Doug Liman." Go Go Go! Go forever and ever, amen.

So y'all. What are y'all seeing?
Y'all gonna be crying at that Shaileene movie aren't you?

Saw Borgman at Cannes in 2013 and LOVED it. It's deliciously dark, dark comedy. Like, 85% cacao.

saw WILLOW CREEK today - worth it for an extended 10 minute still shot in the tent that made me jump. a lot of questions but it is a horror film. I say good work Bob as usual.
