Monster in the Attic

.
Say what you will about the quality of the Friday the 13th movies - I don't know if it's just the fact that having watched them at the perfect age I was ripe for it and they've become inextricably linked to my shudder zone, but they really do have the ability to spook me even after all these years. No matter how old I get I will still find myself tip-toeing around the house staring mistrustfully of shadows after I watch one. And honestly the images giffed here from the end of the third movie are amongst the most terrifying images I've ever seen, for me - unmasked Jason popping up mid-day in that attic in the distance and clawing his way at the glass to get at Chris (slash me) horrifies me. HORRIFIES me.

This past Friday the 13th I re-watched Part 3 and again nearly crawled over the back of my couch and curled into a ball watching this scene. It just taps into something deep inside of me. So clearly with today's news that the next Friday the 13th movie supposedly coming out next year will be in 3D just like this third film was I needed to post these shots here and stand my neck-hairs on end. Clearly. Now cue the disco theme song!

I was always more into the Halloween and Elm Street movies as a kid and don't really remember ever watching the Friday the 13th series. The few that I have seen somewhat recently were not very appealing to me but I would like to go back and try to watch all the movies.. only because I'm a completest and weirdo like that.

JA, you are right: this scene is flat-out scary and always will be. In an otherwise super-cheesy (but super-fun!) movie, this is a golden moment of fear.
