I Am Link

.
--- Thunder Wizard - Chris Pratt says that the script for Jurassic World assuaged some doubts that he had, as a fan, that you could dip back into that dino-world for a fourth go-round without stretching credulity. He says that director Colin Trevorrow, also a professed lover of the series, came up with a fun way to get people going to a place where they get eaten by monsters time and again. I believe you, Chris! Now make love to me.

--- And Speaking of Chris, apparently Marvel's already so in love with their Guardians of the Galaxy stuff that they're already slotting a sequel to come out in 2016, and they may be aiming for the exact same date that Zack Snyder's Superman Vs. Batman has landed on. Since every bit of casting that's come out of BVS has convinced me that Zack Snyder has no idea what he's doing right now (Jesse Eisenberg was the last straw) I'm hoping that Marvel's right and keeps their streak going. Flinch, Snyder!

--- And Speaking of the superhero behemoth that won't stop, some new casting for the Avengers sequel - Paul Bettany will be playing somebody called The Vision, who's some sort of android weapon created by Ultron to destroy The Avengers, who ultimately becomes an Avenger and marries the Scarlet Witch or something, you know how those comics go, on forever. Anyway Bettany you may recall is the voice of the computer in the Iron Man movies, so I imagine this will maybe be connected?

--- Jive Strong - What a world we live in that two of my favorite directors and two of my favorite musicians have hooked up and made such spectacular movie score magic together - we learned a couple weeks ago that Trent Reznor has every intention of keeping his gold-spackled fruitfulness with David Fincher going on a third movie, and now here's word that Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood is never gonna give Paul Thomas Anderson up either - he's set to score PTA's next flick the Pynchon adaptation Inherent Vice with Joaquin Phoenix. Maybe this time Jonny can win his well past overdue Oscar. (Doubt it.)

--- Thug Life - I believe this movie was off for a little bit but the Whity Bulger bio-pic is back on, and Johnny Depp is still attached to play the infamous criminal. As a professed Depp-nostic, why do I give a rat's ass? Because tom Hardy is in talks to join the movie as Bulger's FBI pal, that's why. Now they can just switch roles. And then Depp can be replaced by somebody better, like a broom wearing a fedora. We all win!

--- Putting The Hot In Hotel - I only skimmed the tweets that Slash gathered up over here but it seems that the reaction to Wes Anderson's new movie The Grand Budapest Hotel, which just screened in Berlin yesterday, is very very good. Wes is of course coming off Moonrise Kingdom, which sometimes I think could really actually be my favorite Wes Anderson movie of all, which is saying a lot because I do love me some Wes Anderson. Budapest opens in exactly one month!

--- Snow Fever - Well we have word that Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer is going to be released intact in the States, finally. At it's full length, not chopped up by Harvey Weinstein. It will be a limited release though, because Harvey will take any opportunity he can to needle his dickishness into every crevice, whenever possible. Honestly I'm not even believing this news yet, not til it actually happens; that man's not to be trusted. If it doesn't happen before the film's released onto DVD in South Korea, a'downloading we will go.

--- And finally here's the most unexpected thing any of us will read today - Werner Herzog is prepping his new movie (that's not the unexpected part) and he's just cast Mike Tyson and Pamela Anderson in it. Yes, that is the unexpected part. They might not be big roles, mind you - the lead is Russell Brand, and it's apparently a satire about a school shooting. Herzgo makes his movies for so little money, I really hope he goes for broke on this one - it sounds like he could really set something off with this already.

It's crazy how Weinstein is holding Snowpiercer hostage. The film was released here in the Philippines last week much to my pleasant surprise but with virtually no promotion. I feel like I was the only one who bothered to see it (well with a small handful of others in the cinema).

As an avid comic book collector of the Avengers (and X-Men) back in the 80's, I think Bettany is a great choice for the Vision. He can have the android cool but with a level of percolating emotions that the character had in the comics. Besides, more Bettany on screen is better than less.
