Thomas Kretschmann, Star of The Avengers

.
Oh yes, this will do. This will do quite nicely. My long-term German lover Thomas Kretschmann has just landed a role in The Avengers sequel! (thanks Mac) And not just any role - he's a villain! He's going to play "Hans Engelbert McDeustschyNaziName" excuse me I mean "Baron Wolfgang von Strucker." Same diff.

The Baron's been around since 1964 - he's a big-time enemy of Nick Fury and the folks at SHIELD (hey maybe Thomas will pop up on the TV show!) since way back. You can read the character's whole sordid history over at Wiki; as with all comic book characters, it involves dying like a thousand times.

(Sidenote: Look at that picture of Thomas with SHELVES, swoon.) The Baron isn't the main villain in Age of Ultron of course - that would be Ultron, and James Spader is playing that part, much to my irritation. James Spader's acting tics get on my last nerve these days. But knowing that Tommy will be swanning around as a Big Bad Nazi, well that's making all things much brighter. Hopefully there's a scene where he and Quicksilver (Aaron Johnson) have to wrestle. After their costumes are incinerated. It writes itself, really.
