Zack Attack!

.
Oh Zach Morris. My first love. Y'all remember me telling you about the Saved By the Bell musical called Bayside! The Musical! that hit the stage here in New York last month? It was set to only run until Thanksgiving but it just got extended for a whole month longer, so if you haven't had the chance to go, you totes should! It will now run until December 28th - get your tickets here.

I saw the show a few weeks back and it's a heckuva good time, although I'd premise that upon your familiarity with the show - I watched the hell out of it when I was a kid and there are in-jokes in here that even defeated my remembrances (granted it's been a long time since I've watched the show - do they still air it?). But I got about 80% of it, I'd wager, and that was enough to have me busting a gut from start to epic finish. Highlights include April Kidwell's triumphant return to A Character That Elizabeth Berkley Once Played (after wowing the tassels right off of me in Showgirls: The Musical) - caffeine pill freak-outs have never been so delightful! And then there's the wrestling singlet and eensy weensy swimming trunks that John Duff spends the majority of the show strutting around in as Slater - they're worth the price of admission and then some, y'all.

Plus the over-the-top homoeroticism played up between Slater and Zach nearly lived up to the show I was pretending I was watching back when I was an over-heated hormonal thirteen year old, nearly. This is exactly how I remember it being!
