Let's All Go To Comic-Con!

.
He is the one who knocks.

You can't blame me for having Breaking Bad on my mind - as y'all probably know, I spent this past weekend taking in the sights and the sounds and the spandex of the New York Comic-Con, and there was so much Breaking Bad up in there, you guys. It was kind of weird.

Well hey, anything that gets more guys that look like that in their tighty-whities in public, I suppose. And I suppose Walter White's sort of a superhero slash super-villain story, in its own way. (And I realize I'm hardly a unique snowflake in pointing that out.) He's got the costumes. The yellow jumpsuits were so ubiquitous I refused to take any pictures of them. I laid down the same law with the Kick-Ass costumes, but really only because nobody looked nearly as good as Aaron Johnson does in it. Ubiquity didn't stop me from some of the other usual suspects though...

Sometimes simplicity is just right, ya know?

So as I do every year I've gathered together my favorite shots of the cosplaying geniuses out of the piles and piles I took. Head with me after the jump and we will stroll along together!

Bane was amazing by the way - he totally had Tom Hardy's deranged ringmaster voice down, and he made me giggle like a schoolgirl.

I hardly saw any Lord of the Rings costumes this year - you'd think there'd have been some dwarves from The Hobbit but if there were they skirted past me. (I am sure a lot skirted past me - this thing is so enormous y'all. I must miss 90% of it.) Anyway the family of elves above seemed a little bit weirded out when I asked them for a picture, but I thought they looked great. Dad should have went for Denethor though, he is so John Noble it's scary.

Oh right I did momentarily see Gollum, as he went whizzing past along the floor. That was the best picture I could snap, he was moving quick. He was utterly and completely terrifying.

Effie Trinket! Score. And I wish I could have captured the Wicked Witch's costume better, she looked amazing, right out of Raimi's movie.
.
Bad Robot! He was so enormous
I couldn't get him all in the frame.

Dr. Who Jr!

Where else are you going to see a woman dressed as Rick from The Walking Dead allying lipstick to Gene Simmons? I ask you, where else???

That is an awesome costume.

The pair of Frank N. Furters started suggestively rubbing themselves together, successfully creeping me out. I did not ask for that. (Yes, they are both ladies.) I didn't ask for the Zombie Alice to start eating her bunny either though, and that was awesome.

The guy on the right - I don't know what that costume is (feel free to school me) - he was desperate to get his helmet off and didn't want to take the picture so I rushed it, but he had the best body of anybody I saw all weekend. I wish I'd gotten a better picture to show it off properly.

What have they done to my beloved Ghostbusters?

I adored that Ramona Flowers.
She was awesome.

I stalked Green Arrow for a little bit, but I couldn't get a good picture of him. he was with a big crowd of dudes and I was too shy.
.
Shredder with all the turtle's heads!
Kick ass.

I saw a few people in costume as the killers from You're Next, which made me indescribably happy. And the kid on the right in the Rocket Raccoon costume looked AMAZING, as he was so little! he couldn't have been older than 13 or so.

As usual there were tons of Wolverine wannabes, but the dude on the right was super cute.

Yup, they had the car from Agents of SHIELD! I couldn't make it to the panel for the show though, and I am behind on the show two episodes, so I'll just leave it at that. (Poseur!)

The X-Men dudes were standing in the same spot flexing for hours, I swear. I kept wandering back by where they were and yup, still there, still flexing.

Two figures from the upcoming Robocop reboot. I wish Joel Kinnaman had been at Comic-Con. Naked. I wish he'd been there, and been naked. Oh well. There's always next year...

Alright that's it for the fantastical journey thru cosplay portion of our recap. Next up we'll look at the panels I made it to. Stay tuned...
