Quote of the Day

.
"There is no Team Walt, really, unless you're a sociopath, or somebody who's unreasonably attached to the sorts of frustrated little boy Alpha Male fantasies that got Walter in trouble in the first place."

I really really appreciate this piece at Vulture on Breaking Bad by Matt Zoller Seitz, especially in the wake of last week's episode, because reading the comments sections of any recaps in its wake has been ten kinds of frustrating for the reasons he susses out. I agree with everything Matt says, but I think the quote up top should be put on tee-shirts.

I think it's entirely possible to be on 'Team Walt.' While I agree that most of the arguments for Walt at this point are crude at best, there is no justification for categorically dismissing it outright.

A commentator should also be able to make the point without attacking anyone.

Also, in regard to the phone call between Walt and Skyler: it was simply inexcusable that any paid critic or writer could miss the intent in that scene. It's one thing to have an opinion on a show - despite the language we use that pretends otherwise, all taste is ultimately subjective. It's another thing to completely miss the cues that the show provides when it is your job to pick up on those cues.
