In Praise Of Miss Mia

.
Hey hey it's that time again - The Film Experience is asking we the contributors a question and making a top ten from our answers - this month it's "What ten women deserve an Honorary Oscar?" You can find out who we chose here. Due to my travels (and travails) last week I wasn't really able to participate...

... except to say that Mia Farrow should win everything. I tossed it off as a throwaway comment but to my happy surprise it got counted in the tally! Mia made the list too - she's at #9. I really can't fathom that Mia's never even been nominated for an Oscar - I can't imagine the movies without her. They would whoosh, zip, cease to exist.

Looking through the other ladies who got our love I see at least five other names that would have made my own list in a flash... you know, had I made my own list. So a good job to everybody, I say! Y'all go check it out.

It is appalling that Mia has never been nominated but in a way she joins an elite crowd of tremendously talented women who have never been recognized beyond all sensible reasoning.
The top head scratchers other than Mia, all of whom gave at least one award level performance, most gave many:
Myrna Loy-The Best Years of Our Lives plus dozens of others.
Jean Harlow-Red Dust, Libeled Lady
Ida Lupino-The Man I Love, The Hard Way
Joan Bennett-The Reckless Moment, Scarlet Street
Linda Darnell-A Letter to Three Wives, Summer Storm
Veronica Lake-I Married a Witch, Sullivan's Travels (supporting)
Marilyn Monroe-Some Like It Hot, Bus Stop, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes(I don't care what anyone says she's comic gold in it)
Kay Francis-One Way Passage, In Name Only (supporting)
Ann Sheridan-Torrid Zone, The Man Who Came to Dinner (supporting)
Alexis Smith-The Sleeping Tiger, The Young Philadelphians (supporting)
Mae West-She Done Him Wrong
