I Am Link

.
--- Mountains Of Madness - If we knew more about this story I'd probably devote a whole post to this, but since all we've got is the headline really, what much can I say til there's more to rail against slash celebrate? The dude who ran The Walking Dead after Frank Darabont got booted is named Glen Mazzara and he's just announced that he's going to make a prequel set in the world of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. It'll be called The Overlook Hotel, natch. I actually thought they were talking about a TV series a la Hannibal and Bates Motel but no I guess it's a movie they mean. But that's all we know - we have no idea what time period this prequel would be set in or what it would focus on. I propose they hire Shelley Duvall and make it about her character Wendy's grandmother or whatever. Basically I just want some Shelley Duvall. Sigh.

--- Ever Everdeens - Slash has two new pictures from The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire but they are so tremendously boring I can hardly be bothered to finish this sen... yeah, I'm done.

--- One Bad Lady - When I linked to the first couple pictures from the 300 sequel the other day I don't think this one was there - it's our first look at Eva Green in the film, via. She's playing the villainess Artemisia; so where the first movie villainized homosexuals, this one will make it women, then? (I say that even though I love the first movie anyway, of course. If you take it as a knowing, reflexive propaganda piece, it works.)

--- Boo Forward - There's a lot of scary things coming up and Stale Popcorn takes a look at several of the latest trailers for such scary things, including The Conjuring (yes yes yes) and The Purge (horrible) and the Carrie remake (plug it up), and more.

--- Madding Man - Our beefy Belgian boyfriend Matthias Schoenaerts is up for another part (he's always up for my part, I hope he knows) - Thomas Vinterberg, Danish director of The Hunt and The Celebration, is adapting Thomas Hardy's book Far From the Madding Crowd and he wants it to star Carey Mulligan, Matthew Goode, and Matty. Who wouldn't want their movie to star that trio?

--- Save Abbie - I have a feeling that this is not the movie to break Abbie Cornish's cursed career - she's just signed on to star alongside Colin Farrell and Anthony Hopkins (two beacons of quality, those two) in a thriller about the FBI and doctors with psychic abilities and all of these things point to no, no, this is not the movie. Poor Abbie Cornish.

--- Men Folk - The Film Experience takes a look at the trailer for Tom, which hasn't even started filming yet, but will be a bio-pic I guess about Tom of Finland, the dirty dirty gay cartoonist. I haven't watched the trailer yet, so let's head over to TFE together and do that right now, shall we? Whee a trip together!

I can see Schoenaerts as Gabriel Oak that's a very good fit. I'm having more trouble though with Carey Mulligan, I love her but I see Saoirse Ronan as Bathsheba. Sgt. Troy is the role I think is hardest to cast since his hypnotic beauty masks his cold detachment. Terence Stamp realized it beautifully in the original but I don't see it in Matthew Goode. I could see Dominic Cooper or especially Tom Felton more effectively cast. Sean Bean would be a perfect William Boldwood. Whoever they cast Julie Christie, Alan Bates, Peter Finch and Stamp are tough acts to follow.
