Corey Stoll's New Strain

.
Corey Stoll, one of our current favorite bald persons, just got a job! And a neat one at that - he's the lead in The Strain, the adaptation of Guillermo Del Toro's vampire books that's set for FX. I still haven't read the books - there's three, right? - I figured I'd wait til they were done and somebody I trusted told me they were worth the effort. Who knows with Guillermo? He starts things and then just trails off. Anyway the show will be run by Lost's Carlton Cuse; Stoll will play a doctor who's trying to fight a virus that's turning people into vampires. And here below are a couple pictures of him without all of his clothes on from House of Cards, to sum it all up. (See more of him here.) That's Kevin Spacey, most lucky closet-case, and his elbow hovering over Corey in the bath in the last shot.

I thought the Strain was one of the creepiest books I've read in a long, long time. I think I stated this here before, there's a difference between vampires written by men than the sensitive, pretty-boy vamps written by women. This may seem crude but lets face it, women have a much different relationship with blood than men do. Del Toro's vampires don't sparkle in the sunshine or fall in love with incipid young girls. They sren't Louis or Lestat either. Del Toro's creatures are murderous, schemeing blood suckers without an ounce of compassion.
So much more satisfying.
Glad I read the triology. I highly recomended it to all my friends and they enjoyed it also.

By the way, the Doctor Stoll will be playing works for the CDC and, for the first 1/5 of the book, only suspects that it's a virus. But only based on the 747 that lands at JFK full of dead people...

Here's another review for you. Whine and Cheese is a GREAT resource for book reviews, with a bit of a gay slant.

I know I'm really pushing this book but knowing your taste for horror and gore, you gotta read this book!
