When Norman Met Peggy

.
Who else is super duper (I said "super duper") excited about both Bates Motel and Top of the Lake beginning tonight? I am, I am! I haven't read any reviews on Bates but word on Jane Campion's Lake has been fairly rapturous from what I've seen. Now that Girls and Enlightened have ended I need some new shows to obsess on... at least until Hannibal starts up. What did we think of the Girls finale? And what else are y'all watching?

Justified is keeping me happy until Game of Thrones and Mad Men come back. Very interested in both Bates Motel and Top of the Lake, too.

My new secret fantasy is to have Adam run sweaty and shirtless through the streets to my house and break down my door...and then he can ask me to get down on all fours!

I don't know, the show was kind of shitty. There is a certain thrill at seeing the house, but just don't f*ck with a classic. I am so sick of remakes, reboots, reimaginings. God, and now Escape from NY too. GAG.

Long time reader, very seldom do I comment, but I thought I'd leave my thoughts on Bates and Girls.
So I saw Bates Motel, but I was having a few beers and my memory is a little hazy. I do remember that the time shift from the '60s to the present day '10s annoyed me. I did enjoy the dynamic between Norma and Norman, the way the ugliness that is so evident in Norman (and conversely, Norma) is bubbling so close to the surface. They didn't have any reservations about straying from reality (geeky girl finds the new, nerdy boy hot?). Very tense moments, for sure. Going to have to give it a second go.
Girls, on the other hand, ended on a great note. It was a very dark season, choppy and uneven and working hard for me to care for characters that I most likely wouldn't hang out with in real life. I think this can be attributed to all the harsh criticism heaped on Dunham after season 1. It was almost painful to watch these girls' (and boys') misteps and shitty personalities, but I did and I felt for them! It was a show that made me want to cut myself and follow the characters down their dark holes. The ending was upbeat and did have me giggling like a school girl. Everyone loves a happy ending, but I did find it a bit of a cop out to have all three girls reach a resolution without actually working towards it or owning up to all the shit THEY put THEMselves through. Never had I had more fun (and been so depressed) about watching young, privileged, rich white people get by in life hanging by a thread. Is it time for season 3 yet??
